It was nip and tuck as Redcar win at home.

North Shields kicked off with a very strong wind advantage and they scored within 2 minutes, 0 -7. Then for the next 20 mins both sides battled but neither scored. On 25 mins the Shields No.13 got a yellow card for a high tackle and Redcar missed the penalty kick, then on 32 mins Danny Addison made a break and Redcar were fortuitous when the ball went loose and was picked up and driven on by the forwards and then Gabe Holmes rounded the Shields defence to score and it was converted from wide out by centre Danny Addison to bring the score level at 7 all. As half time approached, the other centre captain James Toward made a lot of ground with a great run up the middle of the pitch before being tap tackled, the ball was then fed out to winger Luke Watson who jinked his way through the Shields defence to score, it was converted by Danny Addison, 14 – 7.

Half Time Redcar 14 North Shields 7

Redcar restarted the game and from the kick off Shields knocked on and from the scrum the ball was chipped on from the backs and then Luke Watson hacked it on and chased it, the bounce of the ball caught the oncoming defence out and Luke chipped it on again and re-gathered it to score his second try, also converted by Danny Addison, 21 – 7. On 46 mins No.8 Domonic Ayre got a yellow card for diving in on a maul, but being a man down didn’t upset Redcar’s run unduly and a couple of mins later just when Shield were attacking Redcar’s try line they lost the ball under Redcar’s posts and Billy Wizz (Luke Watson) picked up the loose ball and set off to run the length of the pitch with defenders flailing in his wake, unable to catch him and he scored his hat-trick try, giving Redcar a bonus point, 26 – 7. As the game went into the last quarter Shields score two tries on 63 and 70 mins taking the score to 26 – 19. Redcar then were awarded a penalty and opted to kick for goal, Danny Addison obliged, 29 – 19. In the final min of play Shields scored their 4th and bonus point try, which was converted and the final whistle blew.
